Interactive Content & Device Compatibility
Before it went all-in on (first) gaming and (then) live events, Netflix had a run where interactive content was all the rage. This started with titles in the kids & family space, then moved into adult-centric fare, such as the Black Mirror interactive experience "Bandersnatch." Unfortunately, not all devices are created equal in terms of interactive functionality, so we set out to create a video asset that would play whenever the device certain users were attempting to view an interactive title on was not quite up to the task.
I helped strategize this delicate-but-clear approach, and wrote a script that could be scaled across genres and demos. It gently guided viewers toward compatible devices they actually could access interactive content from, all while avoiding any sort of backhanded "shaming" about their current device's shortcomings.
Below are two examples of how that templatized script was leveraged to apply to both kids and adult content.
